On September 15 every year, Engineer Day is celebrated across India. Today we are dedicated to Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, the great engineer of the country. He was born on September 15, 1861. In addition to being a great engineer in India, he was also an economist, politician and state builder.
India is one of the major engineering hubs around the world. Millions of engineers are produced nationwide each year, and engineering is one of the most professional training of modern times in the United States.
Why is September 15 celebrated as Engineer's Day?
He also did notable work in industry, in addition to draining dirty water from dams and canals and natural sources for drainage, building dams and water supply. Not only did he do something special in the field of engineering, but sometimes he set an example of patriotism.
He was born in the village of Mudkanahalli in the Chikkaballapur region of Karnataka. His father's name is Srinivasa Shastri and his mother's name is Venkachamma.
He received primary education in villages, middle and high schools in Chikkaballapur. After earning a bachelor's degree from Madras University in 1881, he studied civil engineering at the University of Science (University of Engineering) in Pune.
In 1905, on behalf of the British rule, he was awarded the commander of the Indian Empire.
In 1955 he won the Bharat Ratna. Among the special works performed by him are the construction of Krishnaraj Sagar Dam, Bhadravati Iron and Steel Works, Mysore Sandal Oil and Soap Factory, Mysore University, Mysore Bank and many other institutions.
He built automatic iron gates to block the flow of water from the dam, and developed a block system for irrigation, which until now is considered an amazing engineering achievement.
