Prime Minister Imran Khan said Thursday that his "sincere prayers" are with the former sick prime minister and PML-N supreme Nawaz Sharif, despite the political differences between the two.
"Despite the political differences, my sincere prayers are with Nawaz Sharif for his health," the prime minister tweeted.
He said he has ordered all interested officials to ensure the provision of "the best possible medical care and medical treatment" to Sharif, who is under treatment at the Lahore Services Hospital.
The prime minister's tweet comes a day after he sought a detailed report from the Punjab government about the former prime minister's health.
He had also directed the Punjab government "to ensure that Nawaz Sharif receives the best possible care according to his family's wishes."
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had transferred Sharif to the Services Hospital on Monday night after his personal physician, Dr. Adnan Khan, had given an alarm about his critical condition in the custody of the caretaker of accountability.
On Tuesday, hospital doctors rated the PML-N leader's condition as "serious" despite the transfusion of three mega platelet units a few hours after admission.
The hospital administration confirmed today that, according to initial test reports, Sharif was diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenia, a disease that doctors say causes blood cell breakdown.
