A 22-year-old student from Comsats University in Islamabad died of cardiac arrest on Friday, while students blamed the university administration for death and protests.
The students alleged that a delay in the provision of medical treatment to the child, Inam, led to his death, a charge denied by the university. A large number of students gathered at the university premises and chanted slogans against the administration of the university and demanded actions against those responsible for the alleged delay.
"Unfortunately, a BBA student in the second semester at CU, Islamabad, who had low blood pressure and a cardiac arrest died due to lack of ambulance on time, and a private car could not enter the university," reads a statement issued by a body of university students.
"The so-called political management took an innocent life today," he said, demanding a full investigation and punishment for all those responsible.
According to the protesting students, Inam suffered a heart attack and his classmates asked the university administration to call an ambulance or fix a vehicle so that the student could be transferred to a hospital.
However, according to the students, the university administration failed to organize an ambulance and also rejected requests to allow students to bring a private car to take Inam to the hospital.
They alleged that Inam died after lying on the ground for half an hour in a defenseless condition.
The university, through a press release, rejected the allegations of delay, saying that the student had received emergency treatment at the university's medical center.
"The student suffered a massive cardiac arrest and was immediately transferred to the medical center where trained medical professionals administered emergency treatment," the press release reads.
"After administering an emergency treatment, the student was rushed to the Medical Complex of the National Institute of Health of Islamabad for additional medical treatment. However, hospital authorities declared the student dead upon arrival," he added.
"The student's family rejected the autopsy of the deceased student and subsequently the body was handed over to the family."
