Shooting took place when local men hunted boar
Italian police prosecuted a man for a possible murder after killing his father during a wild boar hunt.
According to media reports, the pair passed through thick thickets near the village of Postiglione in southern Salerno when the shooting took place.
At 34, he opened the fire to see the shadows and rustling foliage. He immediately alarmed when he realized what had happened.
Doctors could not do anything to save 55-year-old Martino Gaudioso.
Both reportedly were in a national park area where hunting was prohibited. Police confiscated the rifle.
The Italian League president for animal and environmental defense on Sunday said Italy has become "wild west".
Michela Vittoria Brambilla told reporters that "the state of emergency".
Last October, Italian Environment Minister Sergio Costa demanded a national ban on Sunday hunting after an 18-year-old boy was shot and killed near the French border.
Later that month, two men, 56 and 20, died in a similar situation.
