Doug Bracewell joined Northamptonshire's promotional promotion during the final three games of the County Championship season.
New Zealand all-rounder Bracewell returned to Wantage Road, representing Northamptonshire in a few championship games last year.
Northants coach David Ripley acknowledged that Bracewell is not the club's first goal, but he was happy to welcome him back to the club.
"In the beginning, we fell down to add more variety and speed to the conversation with Kemar Roach, but once we fell, we worked hard to save people of high quality," Ripley said. "Being able to have Doug for those three games was something we couldn't really resist when we were interested in filling that empty space for us."
Bracewell played 125 first-class games in New Zealand, including 27 test matches. He has 376 turnstiles and is close to 4,000 turns.
Bracewell said: "I got a buzz last week at Rips, and I'm really happy to help young people get promoted to the best div. Despite being 3 or 4 last year, I had a really good time here. It was always helpful to work on a friendly team with a little taste last year. "
Northamptonshire can now occupy one of the three promotional venues that ranked third in this season's Division 2 table. The first of the remaining three matches, starting on Tuesday, will be the lowest Leicestershire match.
Red ball skipper Adam Rossington was pleased to welcome Bracewell back to the club. "I think Doug has been a big help in our last three games and our promotions." "He offers high quality technology that we have all of the bats and balls we've seen from him in the Northants shirt."
