Trump switches permanent residence from New York to Florida

President Donald Trump has announced that he will make Florida a permanent home instead of New York's Trump Tower.

He said he was badly treated by political leaders in New York despite paying millions of dollars.

Mr Trump was born in New York but spent more and more time at the Mar-a-Lago site on Palm Beach.

Republican lawmakers collided with Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio – both Democrats.

They welcomed the news that the president was trapped in Florida.

Cuomo disputes Trump's claim that he paid taxes, adding:

Trump has never disclosed a tax return and refuses to disclose personal tax information.

He owns the Mar-a-Lago resort since 1985 and frequently travels between the White House.

President Trump made his second term in next year's election and made it clear that he hopes to stay in the White House for five years on Thursday.

He would always cherish New York, but added: "Unfortunately, despite the fact that I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes every year, I've been treated very badly by the city and state political leaders.

The New York Times reported that President Trump and his wife Melania applied for residency in Florida in September.

According to documents obtained by the Times, Mr. Trump's "other residence" was listed as a private golf club in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (White House) and Bedminster, New Jersey.

The apartment in Trump Tower in Manhattan has been Trump's main residence since 1983. Not sure if he will keep it.

According to NBC News, President Trump compared 99 days with Mar-a-Lago and 20 days with Trump Tower.

The White House did not comment on the president's permanent change of address, but the New York Times said the reason for citing someone close to the president was mainly for tax purposes.

There is no state income tax or inheritance tax in Florida.

Earlier this month, the judge ordered Trump to hand over eight years of tax returns to New York investigators.

The ruling helps investigate the Hershey money paid to two women who claim to have a relationship with President Trump.
