GCyril Nair, a senior software executive based in Urugram, was on his way to Jaisalmer with his family when his young son cried out desperately just an hour into the new, gated highway. “Dad, I need to pee.” They were in the middle of nowhere, seemingly nowhere. Ominous clouds thundered overhead and torrential rain beat down on the windshield. Nair, 44, could only see a few meters of asphalt through his persistent wipers. There is no sign of a rest area anywhere. “I had to tell my family I couldn’t stop… I had to drive another 30 kilometers to find a place with a decent toilet.”
