In 2016, Sangita Kumari was selected for the junior national camp and made her junior debut for India in the same year at the Five Nations Invitational Hockey Tournament in Valencia, Spain. She scored her first international goal against Spain in the second match of the series. In the same year, she represented the Indian women’s hockey team at the 4th Women’s U18 Asia Cup in 2016, scoring eight goals and helping India win the bronze medal with a 3-0 win over South Korea. In 2018, Sangita was part of the Indian team at the 2018 Asian Youth Olympic Games Women’s Field Hockey Qualifiers where Team India won the silver medal. In 2022, she represented India at the 22nd Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England. Team India won the bronze medal in the final of the tournament.

In 2023, Sangita Kumari was selected in the Indian hockey team for the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. The Indian hockey team defeated Japan 2-1 and won the bronze medal of the tournament.

In the same year, Sangita participated in the 7th Women’s Asian Champions Trophy held in Ranchi, India, where the Indian hockey team won the championship by beating Japan 4-0 in the final. Sangita was India’s top scorer in the tournament with a total of six goals.

- Sangita started playing hockey in second grade. At that time, her school made it mandatory to bring a hockey stick.
- As Sangita belonged to a poor family and had no finances, her father made her own hockey sticks from bamboo logs.
