UFC 244 descended last night at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York, where Jorge Masvidal won a fatal counterattack against Nate Diaz. Cut Diaz's face several times and decided to call a bout at the end of the third round (see again here). In a joint headline, Darren Till embarked on a middleweight debut, defeating Kelvin Gastelum through a split decision (recovery).
Biggest winner: Corey Anderson
We get it. Masvidal is the "worst guy" after winning the main event, but even "Gamebred" wasn't too happy with the way everything went down, so let's set aside for now while his performance is dominant. Nod here to Corey Anderson. "Overtime" ended Johnny Walker in the first round, won nine wins, previously undefeated (4-0), and ticketed with a title shot against light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. octagon.
Indeed, Walker has spoken in weight-weight talks, especially after the last two knockout performances, and many believed they could give a "bone" for money, depending on their size and length. But Anderson decided to set his deadline and did so by defeating towering Brazilian bombers. Anderson then went to press Demand a title shot or be released from a contract. I'm sure there's a better way, but I think there's an "over time" going on for Jones' shootout. Dominique Reyes also made an undefeated (12-0, 6-0 UFC) strong case for the championship bout, so he still can't get it.
Runner-up: Kevin Lee
Lee ended his 2 fight ski in an impressive manner by completely exterminating Gregor Gillespie through a massive head kick knockout (recap) in the first round. With the win, Lee goes back to Lightweight and not only gets a new lease in combat life, but also gets his first professional defeat through the same undefeated (13-0, 6-0 UFC) Gillespie as before. Hot knife through butter. "Motown Phenom" was far from being written by many, with a series of defeats against Al Iaquinta and Rafael dos Anjos. In fact, Lee noticed the 155-pound division and under the guidance of TriStar's all-new combat team, he showed better than ever.
Biggest Loser: Kelvin Gastelum
His performance was not terrible (though not terribly) but barely slipped away from a close split decision by Darren Till, but note that Gastelum is now lost straight twice. Gastelum failed to bid a few months ago for a middleweight title with Adesayna, Israel.
Until then, Gastelum hoped to win a dominant victory in order to return quickly to the title fight. Instead, he met with a “gorilla” who, after losing two ships, decided to correct his ship. With a series of defeats on his resume, Gastelum will have to work harder to dig deeper. He must drop a few rankings and win an impressive victory in the next two or three matches. But he is still 28 years old, so he has plenty of time to fulfill his dream of championship.
