Networking is key in today’s workplace

Networking is the act or process of interacting with others to exchange information and develop a professional or social liaison.

Executives in one region used well to build a successful company, primarily through networking.

“Networking is important to every business. But networking isn't about collecting business cards. The results are different. ”

Holland was a single mother, spent 25 years in the fashion industry, jumping into technology.

“So I started to meet people. I went to four events a day and stood on top of an escalator to greet people. I was ready to sit down with people who wanted to know, ”Holland said.
Holland joined the Greater Houston Partnership and began volunteering for the event. She also became a member of the American Leadership Forum, a non-profit organization that engages and strengthens leadership.

“Networking is about seeing how to connect, engage people, connect, what they need and how I can help. But most of all, networking is preparing to call and meet again after the first meeting, ”Holland said.

People are dealing with people they like and they are based on people, not prices, because they have competitors.

Today the Netherlands attends two events a day and her goal is to meet two people. She also keeps in touch with three people she hasn't talked to in a while.

She is also on the same board of directors as the Greater Houston Women's Chamber and the March of Dimes. She hosts the American Cancer Society events and is on the Holocaust Museum and other advisory boards.

Holland said there is a possibility of doing business with all of them.

Holland's most important advice to anyone doing business is to “mark, stand up and speak. Say you'll be there, when you're there, and when you get there, stand up and talk about it what you believe. Be honest and always tell the truth, ”she said.

This applies to networking in much the same way. If you say you are coming, show up. When you arrive, take the time to meet people, connect, and get in touch as you want.

The Greater Houston Partnership Orientation was represented by 60 companies. The speaker said, "Call me if we can do business." Holland called and said that no one had called before.

“I was like an Energizer rabbit. I met people everywhere. But most of all, I was connecting, participating and reconnecting with people, ”she said.
