Woman and man hanged in Kalat district in name of

KHUZDAR: A man and a woman were allegedly hanged in the name of honor in a village in the Kalat district on Sunday, sources said.

According to Levies Force officials, the incident took place at the Chapar Giyawindra union council in the district.

The name of the murdered man was Imdad Ali, Levies officials said, but they refused to reveal the woman's name.

"It's an honor killing incident," said a Levies official while citing some residents of the village.

Investigations have been initiated to determine the facts of the case, he added.

Another official said some residents informed the Levies Force about the incident.

Security personnel rushed to the scene of the crime and transferred the two bodies to the District Headquarters Hospital, Kalat, for medical-legal procedures.

Dozens of women and men are killed throughout the country every year in the name of honor.

In May, a young man shot dead his mother in the city of Dera Murad Jamali, in the Nasirabad district of Balochistan.

In June, July and August of this year, at least four people were killed only in the name of honor in Karachi.

Among those killed were a man and a woman who had married by free will.

Perhaps the best known of these murders is the murder of the Qandeel Baloch model, who was strangled by his brother in 2016.
