‘Incredibly rare’ monkey born at Australian zoo – World

One of the rarest monkeys in the world was born in an Australian zoo.

Francois male Langur with his distinctive orange fur was born at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney last week and has not yet been named.

In critical danger, the animal is only found in China and Vietnam, where it is threatened by poachers and habitat loss due to invasive development.

"Seeing Langis de Francois in the wild is incredibly rare, but seeing a baby is even more rare," said Jane Marshall, the zoo's lead manager.

The baby's bright orange hair lasts only a few weeks before it begins to darken to the color of her mother Noel's hair.

The zoo estimates that there are only about 3,000 species left in nature.

"Not many people know about the Francois Langurs as a species, but these beautiful animals are very vibrant, incredibly agile and intelligent animals," Marshall added.
