Woman killed three hurt in Indian shelling Pakistan

MUZAFFARABAD: A woman was killed and three other civilians were injured in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in ceasefire violations not caused by the Indian army from the other side of the control line (LoC) during the last 24 hours, they said Wednesday authorities.

Bombings of Indian troops began in the Samahni sector of the Bhimber district and the Neza Pir sector of the Haveli district on Tuesday morning "without any provocation," officials based in the two areas said. Dawn, adding that in the sector Neza Pir continued until dusk.

Noor Jehan, 40, lost his life in the town of Kairni of the Neza Pir sector on Tuesday night, said an official from the Forward Kahuta district administration, headquarters of the Haveli district.

Muhammad Din, 70, and Rashida Begum, 55, were injured in the same village, he added.

Earlier in the day, Zahir Shah, 38, was injured in the town of Bandala Seri in the Samahni sector, according to an official at the Samahni police station.

The heavily militarized LoC has frequently experienced violations of the ceasefire by the Indian army, in serious breach of the November 2003 agreement.

As a result, civilian victims often occur.

According to officials, the latest victims have brought the death toll in AJK in the current year to 41, while the number of wounded has been more than 190.

Almost two months after the Indian government changed the state of the occupied Jammu and Kashmir, tensions between Pakistan and India continue to rise. On August 5, New Delhi stripped the region in dispute of its autonomy and divided it into two centrally governed union territories.

The Indian nationalist government of India deployed thousands of additional troops in the Himalayan region and imposed a security crackdown and a communications blockade there.
