On Sunday, a complete closure attack was observed in parts of Balochistan when Jamiat central leader Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Mohammad Hanif was buried, a day after his death in an explosion that swept through the main bazaar of Shaman.
Two others were killed and at least 11 people were injured in the explosion on Saturday in the border town of Qilla Abdullah district. According to police officers, the bomb was an improvised explosive device (IED) that was placed on a motorcycle parked on the side of the road. They had added that Hanif was the target of the attack.
Thousands attended the funeral prayers for the murdered leader of the JUI-F today, including provincial leaders Ameer from the Balochistan chapter of JUI-F, Maulana Abdul Wasay, Senator Usman Khan Kakar, the provincial president of the Awami Asghar Khan Achakzai national party and MNA Salahuddin Ayubi. Frontman Corps Chaman Scout wing commander Colonel Khurram Javed, Chaman Bashir Khan deputy commissioner and Shaukat Mohammad district police officer also participated in the funeral prayers.
DC Khan said the suspects would be arrested, adding that all security agencies were on high alert to maintain the status of law and order.
The closing strike was observed in Chaman, as well as in other parts of Balochistan, including the districts of Quetta, Pishin, Hub, Sibi, Noshki and Harnai. All major shopping centers were closed in Quetta in response to a closing call from JUI-F Balochistan and merchant organizations.
Meanwhile, Chaman's assistant commissioner, Yasir Dashti, said a case related to the explosion has been registered with the Department of Combating Terrorism (CTD). He said that after the explosion, strict security arrangements were made in Chaman and along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Dashti said the investigation of the police and other institutions is underway and they are investigating several reasons. He added that no arrests have been made yet.
