The leaders of the PPP and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) said on Wednesday that there are no differences between their parties when sending the packaging of the Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Pakistan government, but that the method for Achieving that goal is still open for discussion.
The resolution came after JUI-F leader and opposition Rahbar Committee coordinator Akram Durrani called PPP leaders Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and Sherry Rehman in the latter's office in parliament.
The meeting was part of JUI-F's efforts to get the PPP to join its long anti-government march that is scheduled for next month. The PPP leadership previously announced that it will not join the march, but promised to provide "moral and political support" to the JUI-F.
Speaking to reporters after their meeting, Durrani said the leaders of the two parties had "good" discussions.
He said that the JUI-F and the PPP had reached a full consensus on an idea: "We have to send this government home. We have to send this prime minister home."
However, he said that talks about how to dismiss the government would continue and that they would take today's meeting discussions to their respective leaders for further consultation.
Bukhari also said that the two sides were united in the idea of sending the government home.
"It is very important to get rid of this incapable government," he said, adding that discussions about the modalities would continue. He said that a multi-party conference (MPC) or a Rahbar Committee meeting could also be convened to finalize matters.
The head of the JUI-F, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, had announced last month that his party had planned a long "decisive" march to overthrow the current "false government" in October. He had warned the government not to make any effort to interrupt his planned march and expressed the hope that people from all walks of life and across the country will arrive in Islamabad to participate in what he called an "Azadi March" to free to the country of the current "incompetent and illegitimate government."
The relationship between the JUI-F and the PPP began to deteriorate after the latter refused to join the long march earlier this month, with leaders of both parties accusing each other of playing politics in the matter.
After the JUI-F criticized the PPP measure to stay away from its long march, the PPP asked on Monday to convene another MPC to discuss the possibilities of launching a full-blown anti-government protest campaign from the joint opposition platform .
