Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani announced on Tuesday that the provincial government will grant Rs 100,000 to anyone who "films and identifies people who litter" on the streets of Karachi.
While talking to the media, Ghani announced two mobile numbers where citizens can send videos of people littering the city through WhatsApp. Citizens can send videos on 0300-0074296 and 0300-0084296.
The provincial minister told reporters that he had personally witnessed people throwing garbage on the roads on purpose and said that those who "claimed to have inherited the city" were contaminating Karachi.
"This is a conspiracy to damage the cleaning unit," he said. The minister promised that the identity of the citizens who reported such incidents will be kept secret.
He said the Sindh government had to bear additional costs due to some elements that drowned the sewer lines and broke the water pipes on purpose. He added that, in addition to garbage, debris was also thrown on the roads, which was a crime.
On Sunday, Sindh Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah made similar comments and said that the "alleged friends of Karachi" had drowned 24 sewers in the city's Malir 15 area by placing rocks and stones that would have caused leaks in the sewage water The main roads of the metropolis.
Last week, the Sindh government started a cleaning campaign called Clean My Karachi after facing criticism for not being able to clean the metropolis.
