Port Houston plans to purchase renewable power by signing a 10-year contract that is expected to save about $ 240,000 per year compared to the current three-year contract.
Executive director Roger Guenther was commissioned Tuesday to launch a final deal with three retail electricity suppliers, Constellation New Energy, MP2 Energy Texas, and NRG Business Solutions. According to a press release, the cost of a 10-year contract with selected suppliers can reach up to $ 35 million.
Since last month: Houston will continue to grow cargo
Renewable energy can be collected from sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves or geothermal energy. This will remove about 25,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year or 250,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide in 10 years from Port Houston's carbon footprint.
Port Houston reported operating results this week and found that in the first nine months of this year, the industry's typical unit of measure for a container, or 20 foot equivalent device or TEU, increased 11 percent to 11 million TEUs.
