The European Parliament has approved the creation of the EU Talent Pool, a digital platform designed to help companies recruit skilled workers from outside the European Union.
Lawmakers supported the proposal with 414 votes in favor, 182 against, and 21 abstentions.
The platform allows employers in participating EU countries to connect job vacancies with job seekers outside the EU, especially in sectors facing labor shortages. Registration on the platform is free for both employers and applicants.
Under the scheme, job seekers can create profiles highlighting their skills, qualifications and work preferences, which employers can then access during recruitment.
EU countries can also accelerate the immigration process for selected candidates through the platform. However, final decisions on work and residence permits are left to individual member states and are still subject to standard immigration and security checks.
The regulation must receive formal approval from the EU Council before it can enter into force.
