LAHORE: The Pakistan-Nawaz Muslim League said Monday that retired captain Mohammad Safdar, son-in-law of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, was arrested by Punjab police Monday night.
According to PML-N spokesman, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Mohammad Safdar was arrested on charges of "hate speech."
He was arrested on the highway while returning to Lahore from Bhera.
Police had registered a case against him on October 11 for speaking out against state institutions.
Ms. Aurangzeb, condemning the arrest, said that the "fascist government" of Prime Minister Imran Khan had leaned too low to suppress the opposition's voice. "First, Imran Khan should be arrested for making a series of hate speech," added the PML-N leader.
She said the government was losing her temper with the "Azadi march" approach.
