Postal service works to restore service to Houston-area customers affected by Imelda


The US Post Office said it is working to restore service to customers in Houston who have been affected by the remnants of tropical storm Imelda.

Some operations have ceased on Thursday, when heavy rains hit the area due to Imelda tropical depression. Three people were injured when the roof collapsed at the North Houston mail handling facility.

The postal service said in a news release Monday that most of its work was resumed after inspection by structural engineers.

The official stressed, "Customers who do not receive a normal amount of mail can be sure that all mail in the system is always safe and secure."

"We are processing all mail and packages as soon as possible, and everything we expect will be delivered as soon as possible," the press release said. "Thank you for your patience as we continue our efforts to resume normal mail operations in Houston and the surrounding area."


FDA said all post offices resumed normal operation except for the following:

* Moved to Porter Post Office, 20811 Highway 59, New Caney, New Caney Post Office;

Liberty Post Office, 1515 Sam Houston St., Liberty;

Hamshire and Stowell Post Office, Winnie Post Office, 324 Highway 124, Winnie;

* Moved to Morrisville Post Office, Evadale Post Office, 225 FM 105, Evadale;

* Nome Post Office: China Moved to 305 N. Broadway St., China Post Office.
