Flight Ticket prices in Pakistan jump by up to Rs28,000 after massive fuel surge

KARACHI – A surge in aircraft jet fuel prices in Pakistan has led to a significant hike in domestic and international airfares, forcing travelers to bear much higher costs.

Jet fuel prices have surged by Rs154 per liter, raising the new price to Rs342 per liter. This dramatic rise has increased operating costs for airlines, with the burden now being passed on directly to passengers.

For domestic flights, ticket prices have been increased from Rs2,800 to Rs5,000 per passenger. The hike has already been seen on routes connecting Karachi with Lahore, Islamabad and other major cities. This means that passengers traveling domestically will now have to pay much more for air travel.

The impact is even more severe on international routes. The airline has increased fares from Rs 10,000 to Rs 28,000 per ticket depending on destination. For flights from Pakistan to the Middle East and Central Asia, fares have increased by around Rs15,000 per ticket.

The biggest shock to travelers occurs on long-distance routes. Flights from Pakistan to Toronto and Manchester recorded the highest increase, with ticket prices rising by up to Rs28,000 per passenger.

Following this increase, the one-way economy class fare on this route has crossed Rs250,000, making international travel much more expensive for Pakistani passengers. Airlines officials said the unprecedented rise in jet fuel prices has forced airlines to directly adjust ticket prices, leading to a surge in air travel costs across many routes.
