Australia beat Pakistan by one inning and 48 races in the second test at Adelaide Oval on Monday to sweep its series of two 2-0 tests.
Pakistan lost its last two wickets after the dinner break, which was extended by 239 in its second inning, after being called to follow by Tim Paine.
Nathan Lyon finished with the best 5-69 entry figures.
At dinner break in Adelaide, Pakistan was 229 for eight, and still needed to score another 58 for the hosts to hit again.
Pakistan resumed day four in a precarious 39 for three with Masood without 14 and Shafiq in eight after being eliminated by 302 in his first innings and forced to continue.
He followed Australian Mammoth 589 for three declared, built around David Warner's exceptional 335 that did not come out, the tenth highest test score of all time.
By needing 248 to make Australia beat again and avoid a second defeat in successive innings, they made a decent effort to reach the milestone. Mohammad Rizwan, in just his third test, was not out of 40. Masood did 68 and Shafiq 57.
While Lyon drew some life from the field, it offered little for fast Australia players who struggled.
They can take the new pink ball shortly and with the lights on, it should offer more favorable conditions to finish the job.
Masood, who is inspired by the Alastair Cook of England, played some glorious strokes, including a six in Lyon, as he assumed a leading role after Babar Azam and Captain Azhar Ali fell cheaply Sunday night.
His sixth test 50, in his 17th test, came with a limit against Lyon, his sixth four, before the spinner jumped in half, where Mitchell Starc picked up an easy catch.
Shafiq, who has 12 Test hundreds in his name, proved to be equal to Masood and released his half-century 25 with a single by Josh Hazlewood.
But Lyon attacked again, with Shafiq gaining a slender advantage over a flying ball that brought Warner to the slip, before then eliminating Iftikhar Ahmed, caught in the short leg by Marnus Labuschagne for a battle 27.
Surprising, Yasir Shah, creator of the first entry of the century, could not repeat the heroics and was the next victim of Lyon, who gained 13 pounds after a review.
