New regional passport officer takes charge

Mumbai: Swapnil Thorat, a 2017 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, on Tuesday took charge as Regional Passport Officer, Mumbai. He succeeds Arjun Deore. Thorat was posted in South Korea between 2018 and 2023 and served as in-charge of the trade and investment and public diplomacy departments at the Indian embassy based in South Korea. He also worked in the finance division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more than two years. He has a master’s degree in biotechnology from the University of Mumbai and worked in the field of cancer research at the Advanced Cancer Treatment Research and Education Center in Navi Mumbai for some time.
