Conflict in the Middle East is disrupting shipping across the region, including the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.
Maritime traffic through the strait, a narrow waterway linking the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, has been effectively closed since the offensive against Iran began. Some ships have been diverted or delayed, and ports and shipping companies are dealing with heightened security concerns and uncertainty.
Meanwhile, at least six major cruise ships, each carrying thousands of tourists, remain anchored in or near ports across the region, with passengers trapped on board.
