Pakistan, Qatar vow to enhance bilateral ties

DOHA – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and discussed bilateral relations and global developments.

According to an official statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Commander of the Defense Forces Syed Asim Munir, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international developments. They reaffirmed the strong fraternal relations between Pakistan and Qatar and expressed satisfaction over the growing momentum of political, economic and institutional cooperation.

They also discussed strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, energy, defence, people and labor, and culture. Both sides said a joint task force between the two countries was essential to accelerate cooperation in this area.

Both sides emphasized the importance of implementing decisions made in recent high-level talks and institutional mechanisms such as the Joint Ministerial Committee and bilateral political consultations.

Regional issues, including developments in the Gaza Strip and broader Gulf security issues, were also discussed at the meeting, according to the statement.

The Prime Minister praised Qatar’s constructive diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue and ease tensions in the region. The two leaders emphasized the importance of peaceful resolution of disputes and compliance with international law, including the United Nations Charter.

The meeting further strengthened the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Qatar and reaffirmed their joint commitment to maintain close cooperation on bilateral, regional and international issues.
