SUKKUR: The president of the Party of Peoples of Pakistan (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, said that Prime Minister Imran Khan made great claims before coming to power, but did not keep those promises, sinking the country's economy into crisis.
The PPP president addressed a public meeting at Lake View Park in Kandhkot on Saturday.
He said the prime minister during his election campaign had said he would rather die than seek foreign loans. Now, Bhutto-Zardari said, the country was in mortgage under the loan of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He said Imran Khan should feel ashamed, as a large number of people had been unemployed in his government, which led many to commit suicide on a daily basis.
The PPP leader says Imran has not fulfilled the promises made during the election campaign
The PPP president regretted that the nation faced serious problems due to inflation, including strong electricity and gas bills, educational expenses and medicines. He warned that the day was not far when frustrated people in the country would go out to protest against the prime minister and his government.
He said people questioned the PTI government's promises to provide 10 million jobs, five million homes, health cards and loans in easy terms and conditions. His speeches were limited only to television and the reality was very different on the ground, Bhutto-Zardari said.
He said that, under the government of the PTI, doctors, engineers, merchants, industrialists and peasants protested against unnecessarily imposed taxes that had negatively affected business activities in the country.
Bhutto-Zardari said that all political parties had the right to register their protest for the elimination of the selected government.
He said the current government only survived by obeying the IMF and increasing the rates and prices of electricity, gas and gasoline, adding that the government did not have a real agenda to strengthen the country's economy.
He expressed the hope that the people of Sindh and the rest of Pakistan would support him as they had supported Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and former President Asif Ali Zardari.
He added that political prisoners faced difficulties in prison through a well-prepared plan and were deprived of medical facilities on purpose. He warned that the government would be responsible for any loss.
Sindh Prime Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, PPP Provincial President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, former Sindh Prime Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, and MNA Syeda Nafeesa Shah were present at the occasion, among others.
