WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump threatened to "destroy and completely destroy" the Turkish economy on Monday if Turkey took any action it considered "out of bounds" after its decision to withdraw US forces from northeastern Syria.
The withdrawal, announced by the White House on Sunday night, was quickly condemned by a bipartisan group of lawmakers for the concern that it could open the way for a Turkish attack against Kurdish forces allied with Washington.
"As I said before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does something that I, in my great and unparalleled wisdom, consider that it is off limits, I will totally destroy and destroy Turkey's economy (I've done it before!)" Trump tweeted.
