PTI worker shot dead in Azizabad ‘targeted attack’ – Pakistan

KARACHI: A worker from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf was shot dead in an alleged incident of selective murder in Azizabad on Saturday, police said.

They added that Mohammed Asif, 43, was shot dead near Madni Masjid in Block 8 of Federal Area B.

Azizabad police said he was going home after offering Asr's prayer in the mosque when armed riders intercepted him, opened fire and walked away.

Asif suffered a critical gunshot wound to the neck and was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival, said police surgeon Qarar Ahmed Abbasi.

Police said it appeared to be an incident of selective murder.

Investigators picked up two spent bullet shells fired with a 30-caliber pistol from the crime scene.

PTI legislator Jamal Siddiqi said Dawn that the victim was his "active worker" in the area.

He questioned the performance of the provincial government saying that the other day a female medical student was shot dead in the presence of her father in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and today a political worker was killed in Azizabad.

Another PTI legislator, Khurram Sher Zaman, asked the police and other authorities to arrest the murderers.

The coordinator of the Muttahida Qaumi-Pakistan Movement and federal minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi and other members of the party coordination committee condemned the incident of selective murder in Azizabad.

"Attempts [are] done again to sabotage the peaceful atmosphere in Karachi, "said Dr. Siddiqi

Sindh Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah realized the murder and sought a detailed report from the city's police chief, a spokesman said.

He asked how the incident happened and if it was a selective murder incident.

He ordered the police to extend full cooperation to the victim's family.

Meanwhile, three people died in separate traffic accidents in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Sarwar Khan, 37, was hit and killed by a fast-moving vehicle in the Mauripur area. An unknown 17-year-old man was hit and killed by a vehicle in the New Sabzi Mandi area. Sawar, 5, was hit and killed by a vehicle in the Landhi area of ​​Mueenabad.
