Former Dawn City Editor Abul Hasanat passes away Pakistan

Former Dawn The city's editor, Abul Hasanat, breathed for the last time on Saturday in Karachi.

His funeral prayers will be held on Sunday in Masjid-e-Khair-ul Bashar, Block J, North Nazimabad, after the prayers of Zuhr.

Leave a wife, a son and three daughters.

He graduated from the University of Karachi in 1973 with a degree in history, philosophy and international relations.

He worked as a journalist in Dawn from 1995 to 2010, during which he served as city editor and senior editorial advisor. In 2011, he joined The Express Tribune, where he served as editorial consultant to date.

His father, Abul Akhyar, was also a senior journalist.

Hasanat placed great value on objectivity while reporting, saying once he did not understand how a journalist could write a story with his conscience.

“A piece of news must be written objectively. Is there any concept of dishonesty in journalism? I remember a judge telling someone who wrote decisions based on "facts" and not "conscience." So, a journalist has to be objective in his profession, ”he had said.
