Aleem faces arrest for attacks on parliament house PTV building

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani leader Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and member of the Punjab Assembly, Abdul Aleem Khan, faces arrest after an anti-terrorism court (ATC) issued amparo orders for his alleged involvement in the 2014 attacks on the House of Parliament and the PTV building.

ATC judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan issued the orders a few days ago, although the order came to light on Friday, after the MPA did not appear in court regarding the hearing of these cases.

Justifying Aleem Khan's absence from the hearing, his lawyer Shahid Naseem Gondal said that at the time the ATC heard the two cases, [the lawyer] He represented Prime Minister Imran Khan in a case brought by the leader of the Pakistan-Nawaz Muslim League, Mohammad Hanif Abbasi, in a Rawalpindi court.

The lawyer said that when he arrived at the ATC he had already issued the arrest warrants against Aleem Khan. He added that his client would submit a withdrawal request for these orders next week.

Police have invoked relevant sections of the Anti-Terror Law against PTI leaders Imran Khan, Dr. Arif Alvi, Pervez Khattak, Asad Umar, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Shafqat Mehmood, Raja Khurram Nawaz, Jahangir Khan Tareen and others for inciting the violence during the 2014 session – at the D-Chowk in Islamabad.

On July 30, the court exempted them from personal appearance.

Prime Minister Khan had already been exempt from personal appearance in these cases.

After Alvi took an oath as president of Pakistan, his lawyer advised him to take advantage of presidential immunity. But President Alvi chose to continue his case despite being the head of state.

Article 248 (2) of the Constitution states: "No criminal proceedings shall be initiated or continued against the President or a Governor in any court during the term of office."

According to the prosecution, three people died and another 26 were injured during the violence. He said 60 people were arrested. The prosecution presented 65 photos, sticks, cutters, etc., to the court to establish its case.

The prosecution said the protest was not peaceful and the defendant sought bail after three years. PTI workers and Pakistan Awami Tehreek marched in the House of Parliament and the House of the Prime Minister on August 31, 2014, and clashed with the police deployed on Constitution Avenue.
