Four newborns die in incubators for want of oxygen in Thull – Pakistan

SUKKUR: Four newborn babies died suffocated in their incubators after remaining without oxygen for more than 12 hours in a private hospital in the city of Thull on Saturday morning.

Sources at the hospital said the babies were admitted two days ago at the Israr Clinic, led by Dr. Israr Ahmed Noonari, who claimed to be a child specialist.

The four babies that were not yet named and were children of Miandad Bungali, Hadi Bux Jamali, Gul Hassan Sarki and Wahid Buriro were kept in incubators under the supervision of a doctor, sources said.

In the absence of a vigilant nurse, at some point during the night, the cylinder that supplied them with oxygen was emptied and the babies died suffocated due to lack of oxygen for more than 12 hours, the sources said.

When the doctor arrived in the morning, he found all the children dead, which provoked furious protests from the parents and relatives of the victims, they said.

The city authorities took steps to control the situation and MPA Dr. Sohrab Sarki intervened to help end the protest. He assured the aggrieved families that strict measures would be taken against the people responsible for the tragedy.

Hospital staff disappeared after the death of the children and the subsequent protest, while the authorities sealed the clinic.
