Foreign investment jumps by 137 in first quarter of FY20

Total foreign investment in the country increased 137 percent, or $ 512 million, in the first quarter of fiscal year 2019-20, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported Thursday.

Total investment during the period from July to September 2019 was $ 886 million compared to $ 374 million during the same period in 2018.

In a breakdown of total investment, the central bank recorded a 51{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} increase in foreign private investment during the period under review. Investment in this item increased to $ 564 million during the three-month period in contrast to $ 374 million during the same quarter last year.

Foreign direct investment (FDI), however, decreased by 3{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} during the period under review to $ 542 million compared to $ 559 million during the same months last year.

On a monthly basis, total foreign investment increased to $ 622 million during September 2019 compared to $ 126 million during the same month in 2018. FDI also increased to $ 385 million during September compared to $ 182 million during September. 2018.
