Salahuddin’s family pardons policemen Pakistan

GUJRANWALA: The family of Salahuddin Ayubi, a suspected ATM thief whose death in police custody in Rahim Yar Khan had caused outrage across the country last month, has pardoned the accused police.

A station officer, an inspector and some agents appointed in the case are currently on provisional bail. The media approach in the case had forced the government to eliminate DPO RY Khan and then the acting DPO as well.

The sources said that Ayubi's family had asked the government to establish a school, establish a gas network in their Gorali village and rebuild a link road in exchange for the pardon.

With the assurance that Zeeshan Haneef, additional commissioner of the additional commissioner, that two of the projects – gas and road – would be implemented, Ayubi's father, Muhammad Afzal, pardoned the accused policemen at a meeting in a mosque in the village. Assistant commissioner Shahid Abbas was also present there.

The sources said that some local political personalities played their role in convincing Afzal to forgive the accused "in the name of Allah."

When asked if the defendant would get any relief in this case as the state has recently become a party to such heinous crimes, Punjab additional IG operations said they would get relief in the FIR, but any relief in their service issues would be decided by the IGP
