ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reaffirmed on Monday its commitment to train Saudi troops.
The commitment was renewed during a meeting between the Chief of the Army General Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, and the Commander of the Royal Saudi Land Forces (RSLF), Lieutenant General Fahad bin Abdullah Mohammad Al-Motair during a meeting at Headquarters General.
"The COAS affirmed the support of the Pakistan Army towards capacity development and training of RSLF," the ISPR said in a statement on the meeting.
Pakistan has been a reliable military and security partner of Saudi Arabia. It exports conventional weapons and weapons to Saudi Arabia and has stationed its troops in Saudi Arabia since the 1960s, and promises to protect the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from possible future threats.
The military agreement was formalized through a bilateral agreement in 1982, which now governs bilateral defense cooperation in terms of military training, defense production and joint military exercises.
Nearly 1,600 soldiers remained deployed in Saudi Arabia for training and advisory functions until Pakistan announced last year the additional deployment of its troops in the Kingdom without mentioning the size and purpose of the additional troops.
The ISPR also said: “During the meeting, matters of mutual and professional interests were discussed, including the regional security situation. The visiting dignitary expressed his gratitude for the professionalism and efforts of the Pakistan Army towards regional stability. "
