Terror is a challenge faced by the entire world, says Modi in UN speech – World

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Friday while people protested outside against confinement in occupied Kashmir.

Modi, in his speech in Hindi, told world leaders that "India's anti-terrorism voice to alert the world about its evil rings with seriousness and indignation."

"For the good of humanity, it is imperative that the world unite against terrorism," he said, according to The Hindu. "The face of the world is changing, modern technology is producing radical changes in different areas of life. In such a situation, a fragmented world does not interest anyone."

"Terror is not a problem of a country, but a challenge facing the whole world," he added. "A world divided by terror opposes the principles on which the UN was founded."

As expected, the Indian prime minister avoided any mention of the repression of New Delhi in occupied Kashmir or in Pakistan.

According to Hindustan TimesThis is the first time that Pakistan has not been mentioned in an Indian speech, by the prime minister or the foreign minister, in the General Assembly in eight years. The only time India omitted Pakistan from its speech in the last decade was in 2011, the publication added.

Outside the UN, people from the Muslim, Sikh and other communities gathered to protest the continued closure of India in occupied Kashmir, which was imposed on August 5 before the unilateral measure of New Delhi to annex Jammu and Kashmir busy.

Last Saturday, Modi arrived in Houston to attend a rally entitled "Howdy Modi", a Texan cliché, in which President Donald Trump also appeared.

Pakistanis, Kashmiris and Sikhs living in the United States met in Houston to express their outrage with the Indian prime minister over the dismantling of the special status of occupied Kashmir and the excesses committed by Delhi's law enforcement agencies against minorities.
