
ISLAMABAD: The president of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), retired Judge Javed Iqbal, reviewed the performance of the operational wing of the anti-graft control body and said that the bureau had recovered Rs71 billion in the Last 22 months
"The comparative figures for the last 22 months are also indicative of NAB's excellent performance, as the office has recovered and deposited Rs71 billion in the national treasury, which is a record achievement," said the NAB president while chairing a meeting. .
A NAB spokesman quoted the NAB president as saying that the office was committed to eradicating corruption by adopting the "Responsibility for all" policy with iron hands.
Calls for an effective national strategy against corruption
The president said that NAB wanted to eradicate corruption through an effective national anti-corruption strategy and focused mainly on white collar crimes.
He said the numbers of complaints, inquiries and investigations recorded this year almost doubled compared to those of last year.
NAB, he said, had also filed 600 cases of corruption in the respective accountability courts in the last 22 months, which were under trial.
“Nationally and internationally renowned organizations such as Transparency International, World Economic Forum, Pildat and Mishal Pakistan have appreciated NAB's efforts to eradicate corruption from society. According to the Gillani Research Foundation and the Gallup Survey, 59 percent of people have shown confidence in NAB, ”he added.
Judge Iqbal said that NAB had introduced a new concept of combined investigation team (CIT) to benefit from the experience and collective wisdom of senior supervisory officers. The CIT is made up of a director, an additional director, a research officer and a senior legal advisor.
"It is not only about providing quality work, but also ensuring that no individual influences the official NAB procedures," he added.
The NAB chief said that the office had established a state-of-the-art forensic laboratory in his Rawalpindi office, which had digital forensic analysis, documents and fingerprint facilities and that these facilities were further improving the quality of the investigation and Research in all aspects.
He said that due to the prescribed period of 10 months for the efficient, effective and expedited elimination of cases, from the verification of the complaint to the investigation to the investigation and finally to a reference in an accountability court, NAB had devised a Comprehensive quantified rating system to further improve the performance of the NAB headquarters and all regional offices.
“According to the quantified rating system, the NAB headquarters and regional offices are being evaluated in the medium term and annually according to the criteria given, which has proven to be very successful and the performance of the NAB regional offices increased day by day due to regular monitoring and inspections. ," he said
Judge Iqbal said that NAB had signed a memorandum of understanding with China to oversee the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects that are running in the country.
He said that, as young people were the future of the country, NAB had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Higher Education Commission to inform them about the harmful effects of corruption at an early age.
"More than 50,000 character creation societies have been established in the country's colleges and universities," he added.
The head of the NAB ordered all officials of the anti-graft control agency to carry out verifications of complaints, consultations and investigations within the prescribed time so that all cases of megacorruption can reach their logical conclusion according to the law.
