Android Marshmallow share increases, but remains behind Lollipop
Although it’s a significant increase, Android Marshmallow still sits below Android Lollipop and Kitkat on the list. According to the latest distribution figures, Android Lollipop 5.0 and v5.1 together run on 35% of Android devices, followed by Android Kitkat 4.4 with a share of 27.7%.

NEW DELHI: Google has released its monthly Android distribution statistics for September 2016. According to the company, Marshmallow Android 6.0 is slowly expanding to a larger number of phones and is currently up to 18.7%. Android Nougat 7.0 has not made it to the list yet.
Although this is a significant increase, Android Marshmallow is still below Android Lollipop and Kitkat on the list. According to the latest distribution figures, Android Lollipop 5.0 and v5.1 together run on 35% of Android devices, followed by kitkat android 4.4 with a participation of 27.7%.

Android Jelly Bean, on the other hand, powers 15.6% of devices, while Android Ice Cream Sandwich, Gingerbread and Froyo sit at 1.4%, 1.5% and 0.1% respectively. Google collected these numbers from Android devices that accessed the Google Play Store over a seven-day period ending September 5.

A few days ago, Google started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat to Android One devices. The version was released via OTA channel. Cherry Mobile G1 was the first Android One smartphone to receive the update.
The Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Nexus 6P has been on hold for some time after reports that it drained the phone’s battery faster than expected. The problem, however, was attributed to a technical failure by Huawei. Google recently released factory and OTA images for the Nexus 6P and has resumed rolling out the update.
