Samsung is widely expected to launch the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 this year, about two years after the launch of the original Galaxy Watch Ultra. The smartwatch is likely to be released along with Samsung’s next-generation foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Recent rumors have revealed several possible upgrades to the upcoming wearable.
new processor available
Previous reports suggested that the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could use the newly announced Snapdragon Wear Elite processor.
If accurate, this differentiates the Ultra model from the Galaxy Watch 9, which is expected to continue using Samsung’s Exynos W1000 chip previously seen in the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 7.
5G connectivity upgrade
Now, a new rumor has surfaced that Samsung may be equipping the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 with 5G connectivity.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra currently supports up to 4G connectivity, so adding 5G would be a notable upgrade to the next model.
Following Apple’s approach
The addition of 5G support could put Samsung on a similar path to Apple. Apple introduced 5G connectivity in the Apple Watch Ultra 3, which was released in September last year.
If the reports are accurate, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could offer improved connectivity along with other hardware upgrades when it launches later this year.
