Family Guy’s Stewie is getting a two-season spinoff series.

Fox is expanding the Family Guy universe with a new spinoff centered around one of its most iconic characters. The network has officially ordered ‘Stewie’, a standalone animated series focusing on the long-running comedy show’s mischievous baby genius Stewie Griffin.

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane will return to voice Stewie and will also serve as an executive producer on the project. Longtime Family Guy writer and producer Kirker Butler will serve as showrunner and help set the direction of the new series.

What’s in the new Stewie spinoff series?

Unlike the main Family Guy series, which follows the chaotic Griffin family in the fictional town of Quahog, the new show focuses entirely on Stewie’s life and adventures. Fox provided an official explanation for Stewie, as reported by Deadline this morning.

“After being educated at his old kindergarten, Stewie must enroll in a new kindergarten that is not top-notch, attended by several children he does not know and a 75-year-old turtle who only gives half-assed theories about almost every subject.

Stewie is miserable, the other kids are miserable, even the turtles are miserable… A boring day at school turns into a crazy, surreal adventure when Stewie starts rolling out a trusty device that can take the kids anywhere in time and space.”

In the best episodes of Family Guy, Brian, the Griffin family dog and Stewie’s closest ally, is not mentioned in the synopsis. However, Deadline reports that he will appear as a recurring character.

Family Guy’s Stewie Spinoff Release Date and Streaming Plans

Fox has ordered two seasons of the series from the start, and the show is currently planned for the 2027-2028 TV season.

Family Guy and Seth MacFarlane’s other Fox animated series, American Dad, have both already been renewed through 2029, and Stewie’s new two-season order falls right in line with that schedule.

When Stewie premieres, it will air on Fox and stream on Hulu in the US the following day. International audiences can also watch it through Disney+.
