There is virtually nothing left to target: Trump says US attack will soon end Iran war

US President Donald Trump said the ongoing war with Iran could soon end, insisting that US forces have virtually nothing left to attack after weeks of intense military operations.

In a brief phone interview with Axios on Wednesday, President Trump suggested the conflict may be nearing its final stages with major U.S. strikes against Iranian targets.

“There is virtually nothing left in Iran to target, and the war there will soon end,” Trump said, according to Axios.

Trump also suggested that ending the conflict would ultimately depend on his decisions. “If you want this or that little thing to end, it will end,” he said in an interview.

The war began about two weeks ago when the United States and Israel launched airstrikes aimed at dismantling Iran’s military and nuclear program.

Despite US suggestions that the conflict could end soon, Iranian officials have warned that the confrontation could continue for a long time.

Ali Fadavi, an adviser to the commander-in-chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said Iran was preparing for a long war of attrition. He warned that the United States and Israel should consider the possibility of engaging in a protracted war of attrition that could have serious implications for global economic and military stability.

Meanwhile, President Trump refused to comment on reports of a preliminary military investigation suggesting a link between the bombing of an elementary school in Iran and the U.S. military, saying, “I don’t know about that.”

According to Gen. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, U.S. forces have carried out numerous attacks inside Iran since the conflict began. Cooper said the U.S. used a variety of precision weapons systems to strike more than 5,500 targets across Iran, including more than 60 ships.

He added that strikes began almost hourly on Tuesday, hitting targets across Iran from multiple directions. According to the update, the last of Iran’s four Soleimani-class warships was also destroyed in this operation.

The conflict has heightened tensions across the Middle East as both sides continue to exchange threats about the future course of the war.
