Education and early life
Earthquake, whose real name is Nathaniel Stroman, was born on May 29, 1963 in Washington, DC. He earned the nickname Earthquake from his mother, referring to his accidental conception as a “natural disaster.” After graduating from Ballou High School, he immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force as a way to get out of his mother’s house.

While in the Air Force, Earthquake performed a monologue on the talent show Tops and Blues. Later, in the early 1990s, he performed in small clubs. Earthquake purchased Uptown Comedy Corner in Atlanta, Georgia, where he hosted major stand-up shows. He later opened his own club called Earthquake’s Comedy Corner II. Earthquake rose to national fame in 1997 when he joined Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam Tour. In 2002, he joined the Latham Entertainment Presents comedy tour. Acting career
Earthquake made his film acting debut with a small role in Kevin Smith’s 2005 black comedy “Clerks II.” He later began appearing in the television sitcom “Everybody Hates Chris” as the recurring character Uncle Mike, the deadbeat and freeloading maternal uncle of Tyler James Williams’ main character. In 2006, Earthquake voiced a rooster named Root in the animated comedy film “Barnyard”, a role he reprized in the video game of the same name, as well as the spin-off animated television show. Returning to live acting, he played the role of Karl in the 2008 basketball comedy-drama “The Longshots,” starring Ice Cube and Keke Palmer.
In 2018, Earthquake began playing the recurring role of barbershop owner Que on the CBS television comedy “The Neighborhood,” a role he played until 2021. Among his other acting credits, he made guest appearances on the comedies “In the Cut” and “South Side.” Earthquake also reprized his role as Uncle Mike in the Comedy Central animated comedy “Everybody Still Hates Chris,” which premiered in 2024, and played Cuban-American professional baseball player, coach and manager Cookie Rojas in the 2024 Netflix comedy film “Unfrosted.”
Radio
Earthquake began his radio career as a regular contributor to “The Steve Harvey Morning Show.” He appeared on the show every Tuesday and Thursday and often filled in for the host when Harvey was on vacation. In 2013, Earthquake became a full-time radio personality at 107.5 WBLS in New York, where he remained until 2016. He later launched his show “Quake’s House”, which airs on SiriusXM and the LOL Network.

In 2025, Earthquake married Rashida Miller, whom he met while performing at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles, California. The two are involved in philanthropy through the Stroman Foundation.
