Seema Haider is a Pakistani woman who went viral in July 2023 when it was reported that she illegally entered India with her four children to live with her then-lover husband Sachin Meena in May 2023 after meeting her in PUBG.

She first got married on 16 February 2014 to Ghulam Haider, a resident of Garhi Khairo taluka village in Jacobabad district, Sindh Province, Pakistan. Ghulam initially worked as a laborer and auto-rickshaw driver in Pakistan. But in 2019, he moved to Saudi Arabia and started working as a laborer.

Seema was initially contacted by Ghulam Haider when he accidentally called her in response to a missed call. After that they started talking and fell in love with each other. Seema’s family was against her marriage with Ghulam. However, she went against her family’s wishes and married him in February 2014. After their marriage, they started living in Karachi’s Bhithaiabad area, where she gave birth to four children. Ghulam reportedly has two children from a previous marriage.

Speaking to the media, Seema said that she first met Sachin Meena in July 2020 while playing PUBG. She would have her microphone on and have many conversations with strangers. She liked Sachin’s way of playing and his accent, and after four months, they exchanged numbers and started talking on WhatsApp and Instagram through voice and video calls. Afterwards, friendship developed into love, and the two confessed their love for each other in January 2021 and began looking for a way to meet.
She applied for an Indian visa in February 2023. However, it was rejected because the visa application contained a document requiring the signature of a gazetted person on the invitation of an Indian citizen. Sachin submitted a copy of the same Aadhaar card. However, she was unable to get the gazetted signature. She decided to meet in Nepal in March 2023 after learning that Indian citizens do not need a visa to travel to Nepal. She left her children in Pakistan and met Sachin alone. In Nepal, the couple met for the first time on March 10, 2023 and later got married at the Pashupatinath Temple and after spending a week together in a Nepalese hotel, she returned to Pakistan and Sachin returned to India.

Realizing that she could not go to India legally, she decided to go to India via Nepal. According to one source, she sold her parents’ home in her ancestral village to travel, while another says she sold her first husband’s home. After selling the plot for Rs 12 lakhs, she boarded a flight from Karachi to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and thereafter a connecting flight to Nepal. From Nepal, I took a van to Pokhara, took a bus to Delhi, and entered India on May 11, 2023. After reaching Kashmere Gate ISBT in Delhi, she took a bus to Jewar and got off the bus at Faleda junction near Rabupura, Sachin Meena village in Uttar Pradesh. Sachin met her there and took her to a room he rented for Rs 2500 per month in Ambedkar Colony, about 1 km from his village Rabupura.

They maintained such extreme secrecy that Sachin’s father Netrapal Singh, his mother Ritu, and his five siblings, who work at a plant nursery near the village, knew nothing about the rented room or Seema until June 30, 2023, when police knocked on their house in Meena Thakurain colony in Rabupura.

Arrest and Bail
Sachin and Seema started living together on May 13, 2023. Sachin worked in a ration shop during the day, earning Rs 13000 per month and visited his family every day. On June 29, 2023, the couple visited a lawyer in Bulandshahr to get legally married. However, the advocate was shocked to see Seema’s Pakistani passport and called the police. When police raided the rented room, they found the couple had already vacated it and were trying to flee the city. According to one source, police arrested them from Ballabgarh on June 30, 2023, while according to another source, she was arrested on July 4, 2023.

FIR No. 159/2023 was filed at Rabupura police station against Seema, Sachin Meena and their father Netrapal Singh aka Nittar for illegal entry into India for allegedly aiding and sheltering illegal immigrants. They were later imprisoned in Ruksar Jail in Uttar Pradesh. Netrapal was granted bail on July 6, 2023, while Sachin and Seema were granted bail by Justice Nazim Akbar, Junior Division, Jewar Civil Court, on July 7, 2023. They were later released from prison on July 8, 2023, at 8:30 am. The court ordered them to stay in the same house until the final verdict. Their lawyer Hemant Krishna Parashar told the media that all three must visit Ravipura police station every day to sign an undertaking and cannot leave the village without police permission.

India and Pakistan’s response
After the news of Seema and Sachin’s love affair went viral, the public supported Seema and requested the government to provide Indian citizenship to her and her four children. Many Hindu organizations visited their home and offered guarantees and financial support to the couple. Some people questioned Seema’s qualifications and suspected that she too could be an ISI spy. When Seema was asked if she would return to Pakistan, she said she would prefer to die in India instead of Pakistan as she would be killed if she returned to Pakistan. Sachin Meena’s parents Netrapal and Ritu said they would wholeheartedly welcome their foreign daughter-in-law to their home and praised Seema’s courage in crossing the border.

Her first husband Ghulam Haider released a video asking the Indian government, especially Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to return Seema and their children to Pakistan. He even claimed that his father Ameer Jan had filed a police complaint in Malir Cantt after Haider was unable to contact Seema and his children. Seema claimed that her ex-husband Ghulam Haider beat her and even applied cold powder on her face. While discussing him on news channels, Seema said that she would give him divorce as per legal process and claimed that Ghulam was releasing the video to gain sympathy.

The Pakistani public condemned Seema’s actions and said she should have gone to India through legal channels. Seema claimed that she had received death threats against herself and Sachin from several Muslim clerics (Maulanas) in Pakistan. Several Pakistani people belonging to the Jhakrani tribe of Balochistan released a video threatening to kill all Hindu women in Sindh if Seema and her children did not return to Pakistan.
