Public transportation disrupted across Germany amid two-day strike

Public transport across Germany has been halted as thousands of public transport workers go on a 48-hour strike.

Subways, trams and buses were suspended or operated on a limited emergency schedule from 3am (0200GMT) on Friday. Regular worship services will resume at 3 a.m. Sunday.

Friday morning rush hour brought the most severe traffic congestion, with most buses, subways and trams canceled in major cities including Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Munich.

Ver.di, one of Germany’s largest trade unions, represents around 100,000 transport employees and is currently negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement on their behalf.
