The United States is the world’s leader in terms of military power. This is according to the ranking of the world’s top 10 militaries by Global Firepower (GFP). Russia took second place, barely ahead of China. India and Japan round out the top five. They looked at the defense forces of 126 countries, taking into account manpower, land systems, air force, navy, resources, logistics, finances and geography to create the rankings.

10. Japanese Army
Japan was the land of the samurai, and Japan was a major military power in World War II. Interestingly, a peace treaty at the end of World War II prohibited the presence of strike forces. Military spending increased to $49.1 billion for the first time in 11 years, ranking 6th in the world. There are more than 247,000 active-duty troops and nearly 60,000 in reserve. 5. British Army
Another EU member, the United Kingdom, also plans to reduce the size of its armed forces by 20% between 2010 and 2018, with smaller cuts to the Royal Navy and RAF. The UK’s defense budget currently stands at $54 billion. The regular force numbers only about 205,000 men, with a small air force of 908 aircraft and a navy of 66 ships. China’s official defense budget is $126 billion, with the budget likely to increase by 12.2% as it continues to invest heavily in defence. It has a massive military force of 2.285 million front-line active-duty troops and an additional 2.3 million reservists, making it the world’s largest ground force with nearly 25,000 ground vehicles. The Air Force has another 2,800 aircraft. China has about 300 nuclear weapons and 180 different deployment methods. China recently obtained sensitive information about the new F-35 and is known for successfully stealing sensitive military technology. China is, of course, one of the three major military powers.

Russia is also the most powerful country in the world. It is the second largest country by area, and the country has many natural resources that have a significant impact on the country’s economy, accounting for 30% of the country’s total income. Russia’s defense budget is expected to increase by 44% over the next three years to $76.6 billion. In fact, the Kremlin’s military spending has increased by about a third since 2008, especially after President Vladimir Putin took control of Russia in 2000. There are 766,000 active frontline personnel and about 2.5 million in reserve, but the soldiers receive mediocre training. The force was backed by 15,500 tanks, giving Russia the largest tank force in the world, although like the rest of its equipment it was aging. The country is the world leader with nearly 8,500 active nuclear warheads.
