1# The legendary character of Gabbar Singh, played by Amjad Khan, is said to be based on a real-life dacoit of the same name who operated in Gwalior in the 1950s.

2# ‘Yeh dosti’, a song about the bond between Jai and Veeru, took 21 days to shoot. On the other hand, the scene where Jaya’s character Radha lights the lamp took cinematographer Dwarka Divecha 20 days to shoot. Talk about perfection!

3# The screenplay for Sholay was originally a four-line short story created by writer Salim-Javed. Who would have thought that?
4# ‘Sholay’ was a film of many firsts. It was the first Hindi film to be made in 70mm and the first film to be made in stereophonic sound.
5# In the original ending, Thakur kills Gabbar. However, due to opposition from the Film Certification Review Board, the ending was changed and Gabar was handed over to the police.
