
A masked gunman fired multiple shots at a Muslim leader outside his Utah home during Ramadan, authorities and local media said Tuesday.
The target of the attack Monday evening in a Salt Lake City suburb was Shuaib Din, the imam who heads the Islamic Center of Utah, the state’s largest mosque. Mr. A was not injured, but the vehicle was hit several times. Salt Lake Tribune The report cited the police.
Dean told the newspaper he was sitting in his car before a man opened fire outside his home as he left to attend evening prayers.
“He knew my house, he knew my car, he knew my schedule.” Dean said.
Dean said he broke his fast with his family at their home, about two minutes from the mosque. As the gunman, wearing a mask and hoodie, exited the garage, he got out of his vehicle, fired several shots and ran away, he said.
After calling 911, Dean said he tried to get the suspect’s license plate number. The gunman returned, pulled himself next to Dean’s vehicle and fired at least eight more shots, he said.
Bullets struck the front and rear seats and the windshield, Dean said. He attempted to track down the suspect but later gave up his efforts.
Police said no suspects were arrested, according to the report.
