Seven journalists killed in past year: Freedom Network

According to a report released on International Day for Crime Elimination against journalists, which is celebrated on November 2, last year, the Freedom Network said that at least seven journalists have died unpunished over the past year.

According to the report, a total of 33 journalists died in six years, a serious concern.

According to the Pakistan Intolerance Scorecard, 33 journalists died between 2013 and 2019, 32 of which filed FIRs, and the police were able to file a claim in 20 or 60% of cases.

According to the report, of the 33 cases, the court proclaimed 20 cases for trial, of which only 6 (18%) had been prosecuted and completed.

In one of the six cases in which the trial was completed, the murderer was convicted, but after filing an appeal, the conviction was avoided, after which the journalist family of victims did not pursue justice due to lack of resources.

According to the Freedom Network, Pakistan is considered one of the most vulnerable countries to journalists killing.
