Former Zimbabwe captain and opening batter Hamilton Masakadza has been appointed as the cricket manager of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC). Masakadza, the fourth-highest scorer in Zimbabwe, in both tests and ODI, retired from international cricket last month and will start in a new position on Friday.
Cricket Director is a new role that the ZC Board of Directors made a management restructuring decision in August. Masakadza is responsible for defining policies, strategies and programs of best practices through all Zimbabwe teams. It is also responsible for the recruitment, management and interaction of senior cricket technical staff and ensure that coaches and captains can provide effective leadership to the national team.
ZC Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said, “This is a key commitment that clarifies our desire to strengthen cricket at all levels and to administratively improve the game. "His passion for Zimbabwe's cricket, vast knowledge of our games, and a wealth of experience gained from playing at the highest levels will transform ZC and see him become a respected leader in sports."
Masakadza cut out his work for him. Zimbabwe's recent results resulted in T20I losses in third place in the 22nd series Singapore, finishing at the bottom of the point table in Dhaka's other three major series, including Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
The game was played while Zimbabwe was interrupted by government intervention by the ICC. They have since returned to full membership and are now too late to qualify for the men's T20 World Cup. Instead, Zimbabwe's focus is on the ODI Super League, which determines the 2023 World Cup qualifying.
Zimbabwe no longer has international fixtures this year, but next year it will be held in Sri Lanka, Ireland, the Netherlands and India and will travel to Bangladesh, Australia and Sri Lanka.
