IUntil recently, true wireless earbuds that didn't need wires between earphones weren't very good. Robust connections were a challenge, disconnects were common and battery life became a problem.
But they all provided a free taste on the front such as ratchet. After experiencing tangled listening, you will never come back.
Now there are many true wireless earbuds on the market that offer all sorts of features, designs and sounds. None of them are cheap basements, it is difficult to know which one is worth it. Here is a guide to separate the buff and the mill.
This Guardian Buyer's Guide to True Wireless Earbuds was last updated on September 26 and represents the best model of the time. As new models are released and tested, this guide will be updated to help you choose the right earbuds.
Welcome to one of Guardian's new buyer guides. This article gathers a concise list of products or services recommended by the author, allowing hundreds of hours of testing to select the best results and to ignore the rest without doing their own research for hours.

Best all-rounder: Samsung galaxy bud
RRP: £ 139 / $ 130

Additional Information.
The combination of connectivity, sound, comfortable fit, controls, and case size proved to be much harder for wireless earphones than expected. Thankfully Samsung managed it on the third attempt.
The Galaxy Bird is a small, lightweight, comfortable earbud with a traditional silicone tip and small ears on one end so you can completely forget your ears, even if they are small. If necessary, it comes with a soft stabilizing wing, but it stays perfectly well without the wing.
An external touchpad manages the controls. Tap to pause or play the track, and tap twice and three times to skip the track. You can switch touch gestures long while turning on ambient sound or temporarily piping to your earbuds to trigger voice assistant or change volume (turn left to down, right to right). The music will pause automatically when you remove the two earbuds. I want to be able to trigger the ambient sound on pause, but all works fine.
Galaxy Buds look great with reasonable sound separation and the most balanced tones. Bass or treble are not overdominated, well balanced, and separation and punch are excellent if necessary. Sprouts can produce an uncomfortable volume when you immediately release the crank and have limited EQ in the Galaxy Wearable app. While audiophiles can blow their noses, it sounds good compared to the competition at this price.
Whether you're using Samsung or another phone, the Bluetooth connection between the bud and the phone is stable. It can be used as a separately hot swapped stereo pair between left and right in mono, without skipping beats even during a call. Only Apple's AirPods have been available so far. Galaxy Buds supports AAC and Samsung's scalable codecs for high quality music without any noticeable lip sync issues even when connected to non-Samsung devices. The call quality is good but similar to using a speakerphone.
Even if it's really good. It opens and closes with a pleasing snap, small enough to fit into a pair of money pockets of jeans, and you only need to charge your earphones once. Galaxy Bird means up to 6 hours of continuous play and 7 hours of additional play time. In practice, this means that you need to commute through the USB-C port once a week or charge via wireless charging via a Qi-compatible pad or phone.
Pairing with an Android phone with the Samsung Galaxy Wearable app is as easy as opening the app and waiting for a prompt. All other devices, like other Bluetooth devices, need to go to the Settings menu quickly. They worked well with various Android phones, PCs, iPads and iPhones.
Pair with your Android phone and the Galaxy Buds can read the notifications. This is much more useful than the sound. Limiting the number of apps can break your music to a few. There is no iOS app for changing the settings. In other words, you need at least one Android, PC, or Mac to stay up to date.
Why buy
Galaxy Buds offers the best combination of sound, connectivity, size, comfortable case and price, so you can buy for Android unless you like canal buds.
Buy if: I want a simple wireless earbud set that works.
Do not buy if: I only use iOS or do not like canal buds
The best sounds: Sony WF-1000XM3
RRP: £ 220 / $ 230
★★★★★

This regularly updated deal was provided through a third-party price comparison service. Guardians may charge a small fee if the reader clicks to buy.
Additional Information.
Third is the charm of Sony. The WF-1000XM3 finally meets Sony's legacy with really good sound as well as effective noise canceling.
The M3 part of the name harmonizes with Sony's outstanding WH-1000XM3 headphones with best-in-class sound and noise canceling. The true wireless earbud version inherits the same noise canceling chip and allows you to listen to music at nearly effective, small and comfortable volume, reducing or eliminating train, road and plane noise.
The sound shines with detail, energy and clarity, and the punch bass produces stunning sound beyond the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless.
Bluetooth 5 means the connection is strong and the lip syncing problem is eliminated. While the design is particularly attractive in black and copper, the earbuds are large in size and have undergone some trial and error to fit snugly into the correct earbud tips (including 7 pairs). The controls are good but the earbuds lack volume. To listen to the notification, touch and hold one to enable nearby passthrough.
The battery life is also robust, lasting up to 6 hours with noise canceling enabled, 8 hours with off, and up to 32 hours on trip. Like the earbuds, the case is quite large, making it difficult to grasp the pocket. If it's not cheap but you really want a great sound, buy the WF-1000XM3.
Why buy
Complemented by excellent sound, excellent noise canceling and solid connectivity, solid battery life and attractive design, the WF-1000XM3 is a true wireless earbud that delivers the best sound.
Buy if: You want the best sound and loud noise canceling
Do not: You want to be smaller and more pocket friendly

Best Non Insulation: Apple AirPods 2
RRP: £ 159 or £ 199 / $ 159 or $ 199
★★★★★

This regularly updated deal was provided through a third-party price comparison service. Guardians may charge a small fee if the reader clicks to buy.
Additional Information.
If you don't want to stop the world or wear Canal-bud style earphones that fit in your ears, now look no further than the second-generation Apple's AirPods.
They stick out small white stems and gently touch the ears, so that the sound is projected under the ear holes, rather than plugging directly into the ear holes. As a result, you can hear all the sounds happening around you. That is, you can't hear music loudly like London's tubes, and when it reaches its maximum, it doesn't make any sound. Ear pot. It's pretty good considering the lack of separation with reasonable bass and clarity.
AirPods works best with Apple devices to automatically sync sync across all Apple devices, but you can also pair with Android or other devices. The connection with iPhone and the latest Android devices and PCs is solid.
Where they fall is onboard controls. There is one double tap by default. Music will pause or play when connected to a non-iPhone. When connected to an iOS device, you have the option to trigger Siri, or pause or skip tracks on each earbud. That means you can summon Siri during another pause. There is no volume control. Eject pauses the music.
With the second generation AirPods, you can say “Hey Siri” at any time, without pressing anything to activate Apple's voice support. I had to re-teach Siri to recognize my voice, but it generally worked well even when the music broke. However, Siri can be a bit slow, especially if your smartphone is not well connected. It looks strange even on public transport.
Other strengths of AirPods are that you can use one of your earbuds in mono, good call quality and the charging case is the best in your business. The AirPods last about 5 hours of music and can be fully charged by the case about 5 times, which itself is charged via the Lightning cable. It also comes with a new wireless charging case (40 pounds / $ 40 extra) to power up the Qi-compatible charger.
Why buy
A seamless connection with Apple products is important, but it sounds pretty good, has a great case, and Android users can even replace canal shoots.
Buy if: Use Apple products and don't need noise isolation
Do not buy if: You want to block the sound outside the world
Best suited for size: Earin M-2
RRP: £ 219 / $ 249
★★★★★

If you want the smallest and most discreet wireless earbuds, Earin M-2 offers. This small earbud is in your ear, which only shows a flat touch-sensitive surface.
It comes in black or white and is lightweight and easy to forget to wear. They produce good highs and fairly crisp highs and a balanced, relatively flat sound. Those who are pumping bass or looking for truly shimmering audio have to look elsewhere but they make good use of most music genres.
The Android or iOS app arranges the updates and adjusts the transparency setting, but there is no equalizer setting.
Noise isolation is good but not good. The M-2 can supply ambient sound when the music is paused, but it sounds like you're listening to the whole world over old telephone lines. Good to hear the announcements, but you should get used to it somewhat.
Usually there are no left or right earbuds. Sprouts can be inserted into both ears to sprout in any direction, or they can be used alone to listen alone. It supports AAC and aptX, maintains a stable connection between the phone and earbuds, and communicates via magnetic induction, not Bluetooth. The result is audio with no delay and lip sync issues. The call quality is good but a bit quiet. In other words, it's hard to know how loud it is to speak and have no sidetones.
Tap once to pause and double tap to skip tracks or tap and hold to call Google Assistant or Siri from any bud. The control works fine but there is no volume control at all, so I need to connect it to my phone.
Continuously playing for 3 hours in a cylindrical aluminum case, charging about 3 times, the slide opens and closes with a satisfactory mass.
Why buy
If you want to make a true wireless earbud as small as possible, but still want a good sound, great connectivity and a good case, the Earin M-2 is it.
Buy if: I want the smallest wireless earbuds
Do not buy if: I want a smaller sound or a better sound
Best for Sports: Surpasses PowerBeats Pro
RRP: £ 219.95 / $ 249.95
★★★★ ☆

This regularly updated deal was provided through a third-party price comparison service. Guardians may charge a small fee if the reader clicks to buy.
Additional Information.
Don't look at Beats PowerBeats Pro if you want Apple's AirPods to be better isolated and wish your ears like ears.
Like AirBod, PowerBeats Pro connects with iPhone, extending the Beats app to Android. Robust connectivity in all conditions pairs with superior control. Both earbuds have the appropriate volume rocker controls and playback controls, multi-function buttons for skipping tracks or activating Siri or Google Assistant.
The flexible ear loops turn the hooks slightly behind the ears and with a slight adjustment secure them to the head. Runway does not bounce, giggle or knock. They are also sweat-resistant, so it's great for raining and getting well-exercised. Do not turn down the tab.
Silicone earbud tips provide isolation from all over the world. The lively and lively sound is ideal for powering through a running or gym session, does great work in most music genres, and doesn't throw away all bass Beats sound profiles in the history book.
The call quality is also excellent and the battery life is 8 hours, 1.5 times more charged.
The huge case is the worst about them. It's sturdy and works well, but you can't put it in your pocket. They are also expensive, so if you want the basic shoots of the gym this is not for you.
Why buy
It features convenient connectivity and features like AirPods, iPhone (or Android with apps), best-in-class battery, excellent sound, excellent control with real volume rockers, and a steady ear hook design.
Buy if: I want a solid all-rounder that doesn't fall down no matter what you do
Do not: I want something smaller and cheaper

Full review: Surpass PowerBeats Pro review: Apple's fitness AirPods Rock
Best budget option: Creative unusual air
RRP: £ 69.99 / $ 79.99
★★★★ ☆

Known as the PC sound card and MP3 player of the 90s and 2000s, now a gaming headset and headphones, Creative produces the best wireless earphones.
Creative Outlier Air (also available as a more expensive "gold" variant) picks up almost every box. Lightweight and comfortable fit, the shape of the kidney prevents the ear's flesh from tearing the hard plastic body. Conventional silicone eartips are well fixed, but only two sets are included in the box, so if you don't have enough sealing, you may need to purchase extra accessories.
It has excellent connectivity with Bluetooth 5, SBC, AAC and aptX support, and can be used independently for up to 10 hours while traveling, which is about twice the average battery life of most true wireless earbuds.
The case is quite large, yet lightweight, can be put in your pocket, and the earbuds can be fully charged twice, so it takes up to 30 hours before you need to charge it with USB-C.
The Outlier Air sound is surprisingly good for money and produces rounded audio with punches in the bass (if you get at least a good seal) and clarity in the mids and highs. They don't touch the best sounds, but they will go beyond the competition at this price and make money for people like the Galaxy Buds and AirPods.
Each bird's button is responsible for playback and volume control, and it's a bit stiff so you'll have to hold the bird with your index finger and press the button with your thumb. Press once to pause / play, skip back twice to the left or press right to skip forward. Press and hold the left side to decrease the volume or increase the volume on the right.
The call quality is amazingly good and the receiver can make some background noise while speaking. The earbuds feature IPX5 sweat protection, perfect for running and more. Small issues include annoying earbud tips, a bit of hiss on pauses, and hints of lip sync issues on Amazon Prime Video and YouTube.
Why buy
Robust controls, including excellent sound, connectivity and long battery life and volume, combine with the OK case to create a true wireless earbud of true value.
Buy if: I want a true wireless earbud with a low budget
Do not buy if: I want a small case (buy Anker Liberty Air instead)
What is a true wireless earbud?
There are many types of wireless Bluetooth headphones, but the latest wireless earphones are true wireless earphones.
Unlike neckband earphones or regular Bluetooth earbuds, you don't connect the cable to a true wireless earbud, so you can wear all the cords and cables.
Connectivity
Removing all cables means transferring data between the cable and audio through the head. This is not easy. Many early versions could not maintain a solid connection, which resulted in frequent and annoying dropouts.
Bluetooth codec support
Codecs are systems used to transmit audio signals over Bluetooth connections that both phones and headphones must support. There are various codecs available for Bluetooth headphones, SBC is the default, the lowest quality and is supported by all Bluetooth audio devices. AAC is the most supported upgrade with Sony's LDAC and Qualcomm's aptX, aptX HD, aptX Low Latency, and some of the latest aptX Adaptive.
Apple's iPhone doesn't support the Bluetooth codec, especially higher than AAC, but many Android smartphones and newer Bluetooth headphones at least support aptX.
Delay time
Along with the difference in audio quality, different codecs have different delays in sound transmission. The delay time is the time it takes for the sound to be sent to the earphones and played back. Too high is important because the audio track does not match the video, causing lip sync issues.
Most headphones that only support SBC have lip-sync issues, and AAC and above will help you solve the problem.
Ambient sound
Some earbuds can play sounds from the outside world picked up from microphones through the speakers, allowing the earbuds to recognize what's happening around the world. Some may activate the ambient sound automatically on pause, while others may have a dedicated mode where you can mix it with music or listen to announcements or similar.
Battery life
Each earbud must have a built-in battery, so putting everything in a size small enough to fit in your ears means a small battery and a fairly short run time. But they are not born exactly like they last about five hours per charge.
case
Short battery life and lack of wires means that most true wireless earbuds come with a charging case with integrated battery, which keeps your earbuds safe. Some charging cases are huge and heavy, while others are small and light, so it's important if you want to put it in your pocket.
Proper
Most of them are canal-rod designs with eartips of various sizes that go into the ear canal. Along with the tips, many have wings or torso designs, which are fixed in the empty space next to the ear canal, which is called a concha.
Too much pressure on the soft ears around the concha can cause pain, which leads to the most comfortable problems.
Runner
If the top five don't fit the bill, this true wireless earbud is still worth buying.
Anker Soundcore Liberty Air
RRP: £ 79.99 / $ 79.99
★★★★ ☆

True wireless earbuds like Anker's AirPods are the second best after Creative Outlier Air for the best budget option. Lightweight and comfortable earbud design with stalk provides great but good sound, solid connection and AAC support.
The control without volume control is basic, but the call quality is excellent, the case is small and the pocket is one of the various products. It takes 4 hours from the earbuds, in which case an additional charge of 3 times is charged.
Anker Soundcore Liberty Neo
RRP: £ 59.99 / $ 49.99
★★★★ ☆

Anker's smaller, true wireless earbuds are a great budget option, but they have a larger case and have improved the sound and call quality of Liberty Air. They are a bit cheaper and don't have a stalk design like the AirPod, so it's still worth it if the price or earbud design is better for you. Not good for phone calls

B & O E8 2.0
RRP: £ 300 / $ 350
★★★★ ☆

B & O's second generation E8 is a solid mix of sound quality and connectivity very small case. When charged via USB-C or Qi wireless charging, it will play for 4 hours on two full charges. Each earbud's touch panel manages controls, including volume, and has a reasonable transparency mode. It supports AAC and can be connected to both devices at the same time, but cannot be used independently. The call quality is reasonable.
The biggest problem is size. The E8 is large in size for earbuds and won't feel secure in your ears unless you use the included Comply foam tip. It is also expensive and improved in terms of audio quality of Sennheiser.

Boss sound sports free
RRP: £ 179.95 / $ 199.95
★★★★ ☆

If you want more isolation than AirPods, but canal-bud style tips aren't available, Bose SoundSport Free offers a nice middle house. The StayHear + tip is inside the concha but does not enter the ear cane and is fixed in place with a flexible pin.
AAC support ensures a good connection, good call quality and lasts more than 4 hours between charges. In large cases, two full charges are provided. The biggest problem is that they are huge and the ears are one mile away. At least the call quality is good.
This regularly updated deal was provided through a third-party price comparison service. Guardians may charge a small fee if the reader clicks to buy.
Additional Information.
Cambridge Audio Melomania 1
RRP: £ 119.95 / $ 129.95
★★★★ ☆

Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 comes in every way. Robust Bluetooth 5 connectivity with AAC and aptX, long 8-hour battery, great control with volume control, balanced rounded audio for excellent sound.
This case is also one of the best uses, it adds up to 36 hours of playtime to the earbuds, yet it's very pocket-friendly, and it fits very well in a pair of jeans' money pockets.
The problem is huge. They used a very large aperture that made it possible to wear eartips without slightly disturbing the ear canal. Nichelle Nichols' Uhura pops out the mile that seems to be used by the classic Star Trek. Large trunks are uncomfortable in the ears, painful after 30 minutes of listening. Real shame.
Jabra Elite 65t
RRP: £ 149.99 / $ 169.99
★★★★ ☆

Jabra Elite 65t is a good alternative to Samsung Galaxy Buds. It offers solid connectivity, AAC support, no noticeable lip sync issues and improved sound quality, punchy bass from the Jabra Sound + app, and a perfect equalizer.
On the left earbud there is a volume / track skip button, on the right there is a pause / play button, pressing this button twice activates the ambient sound. Clear sound quality results in good call quality but little background noise. This case is very compact and charges 2 charges for a total of 12 hours of playback.
The Elite 65t is twisted to fit in the ear, but the smaller the ear, the considerably larger and uncomfortable for long listening.

RHA TrueConnect
RRP : £ 149.95 / $ 169.95
★★★★ ☆

RRP : £ 280 / $ 300
★★★★★

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless

RRP: £49.99 / $49.99
★★★★☆

The Tranya T3 are a solid set of budget true wireless earbuds with a reasonably bassy sound, good connectivity and AAC support. A button on each earbud takes care of controls. Isolation is fairly weak and the case is pretty bulky and easily marked. Call quality was abysmal and there was a small lipsync issue with YouTube on an iPhone.
