Everyone wants a BMF belt (right?) Except for the BMF belt holder, Max Holloway. What does “Blessed” want? He wants the UFC lightweight title.
Only the UFC’s 155-pound crown will make that happen.
“I mean, the BMF title is cool, you know?” he said Diana Velveeta In a new interview. “I love it. It takes care of me. It does its job. But a definite title is a definite title, you know?
“I keep telling everyone I want to be that. [a double champion]“I want to put my name in it because very few people can be a two-division champion,” Holloway added. “I know people say, ‘Oh, but it’s a BMF title!’ That’s it. That’s cool, but I want a solid title. “I want to put my name on the line with those legends,” he said.
Even though we’ve already lost Ilya Topuria At Featherweight (see highlights), Holloway hopes he can fight him at Lightweight. and win Charles Oliveira It’s a fight to get him back within striking distance of the Spanish superstar at UFC 326, which takes place this weekend (Saturday, March 7, 2026) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“As long as I’m in title contention or have a title, I’m going to stay in the UFC,” Holloway said. “You know, I don’t want to fight over that hill that I’m fighting on. Now my name is always in title contention. And that’s what keeps me going.”
An easier path to lightweight gold would see Gaethje win his 155-pound title unification match against Topuria over the summer. However, Holloway would prefer to avenge the loss to Topuria.
“I’m not rooting for anyone. I hope the best person wins.” Holloway spoke about the Topuria vs. Gaethje fight. “But if I had the choice, I would 100% want a rematch with Ilia. He did what he did, he’s the first person to do that to me, no one else could have done that, so I had to get that guy back. Me and Gaethje have history and I know Gaethje wants that back.
“That would be a fun fight,” Holloway concluded. “But I hope the best person wins and we’ll see.”
